Dear Flowers:

Liza Seehafeir stayed after night here so I sleep in David’s spare bed. I tried to sleep-in. Wrote a letter to Missy. Looked for my tooth. Ate lunch. Watched T.V. Lazy mood. Dads mad at me. Not much new. Grandpas alright. Read old mag. Took a bath. Talked to Pat.

BYE!!

Note: Lisa Seehafer was spending the night with Becky. Becky and I shared a room with two twin beds so I gave up mine. I have reconnected with Lisa on Facebook which makes me very happy! She is still beautiful.

Dear Flowers:

We went to church. I didn’t feel to good. I had a stomack ache. Gisela called & invited me to go swimming & tennis in Las Colinas. I told her I couldn’t. I finished a good book: The House of Sixty Fathers. War book. I read on Coloquio de los Perros. Watched T.V. Washed my hair. Mom has a bad infection on her finger.

BYE!!!

Note: I know when I get upset my stomach always hurts so losing my tooth plus having my parents upset with me was a given. I definitely was feeling bad if I turned down a chance to go swimming and play tennis with Gisela.

Coloquio de Los Perros (Dialogue of the Dogs) was a required reading for my Spanish class.

Written by Miguel de Cervantes, this fantasy story tells of a delirious man who believes he hears two dogs talking about deceit and greed.

Dear Flowers:

David left this morning for a 2-day campout. BAH, I miss him. Mom went bowling & Beck & I swam a short while. To many people. Read on “Mrs. Mike”. Pat & I talked a long rato in the park joined later by Jimmy Ortega & Billy Brown. Went to Simmons & gave her a coco. Jim gave us 1 each. Saw “El Loco” WOOPEE! Watched T.V. Remind me not to visit Simmon anymore.

BYE!!!

Note: David was in boy scouts and they camped out in the wilderness. I was not a girl scout and camping was not something I wanted to do, even now.

I love how I mix in Spanglish; a long rato - a long time; a coco - a coconut. It was nice of Jimmy to give us a coconut. They were green on the outside and you would puncture  a hole on top and drink the water. You then would break it open with a hammer or machete and eat the white coconut meat. I love them!

I had a love/hate relationship with Simone. We got on each other's nerves.

I wish I could remember who “El Loco” was. (the crazy one).

Sometimes the sweetest gifts are the simple ones. I remember my first year teaching, a student gave me a Coca-Cola for Christmas. It was all he had. Sometimes a smile or a hug of encouragement is a precious gift.  What are some of your favorite simple gifts?

We had just moved to Costa Rica in Nov of 1964. I was 11. My sisters were 6 and 7. A few days before Xmas, we learned to never leave the house unattended. The new maid had the day off, and we had taken a sightseeing tour of the countryside. We came back to a broken window and most of our clothing gone, along with unopened Xmas gifts. A last minute rush ensued to put something under the little sapling dad had dug up from the back yard. It was a pretty lean Xmas; I got a few articles of ill-fitting clothing, and 3 Matchbox cars. Mom always said that was one of the best Xmases we ever had. …

Congratulations on awards! It’s impressive how consistent you are in your diary posts. I always read them. The feelings we had as teens are so over the top. But those are honest feelings too. Adulting makes us try to curb so many things. Sometimes though I don’t!

Encouraging actions are a smile and a hug and a hello! See you soon at CSC.
