Dear Flowers:

Did I every work hard today. Washed dishes. I did my english report on Brentwood. I did my Spanish composition & homework. I rewrote my english composition. Outlined & answered the questions in Science. Went for a walk with Pat & ended at my house. I’m tired. Washed my hair. I’m on the treatment for the fungus of the underarms & does it smell. Started last night.

BYE!!

Note: How embarrassing to have a fungus under my arms but I glad I got it treated. Nowadays there are lots over the counter anti-fungal creams containing clotrimazole or miconazole. Not sure what made it smell awful.

Brentwood was a novel by Grace Livington Hill about a young adopted girl who searches for her birth family after her adopted parents die.

Dear Flowers:

School as usual. We had assembly 4th period & part of 6th. NO MATH. Aleluhah!! In Science Pat was changed to a table with all boys. She sits right in front of Roberto with whom I have a crush. Some people have all the luck. I stayed after for Drama. Steve joined. Steve Hansworth is back and so is Leesa Cheeck. I played tennis with Becky, Dave. I think today has been the hottest day!! No homework! Got a 90 on spanish. Watched T.V. Got to go! Moms at American Society meeting. Dad’s leaving to Miami tomorrow Wish him a safe & successful trip.

BYE!

Note: I was jealous of Pat getting to sit by Roberto. After posting his picture last week I found out he had died several years ago. I wish I knew more about his life. I hope he had a good one. One of the sad things of our life in Nicaragua was people often left suddenly, especially after the big earthquake and we never knew where they went. Fortunately, I have made contact with some now through social media.

Dear Flowers:

We had a big fight in Elem. Library today. I hope Shirley isn’t mad at me. Hope everything comes out well. I had my tennis lesson. I played lousy. Scott & Camarota were there. Scott said that Camarota used to have a crush on me but I think other wise. Went swimming. Noni & Larry were there too. I watched T.V. I sleep with Mom. Please make Grandpa come out alright.

BYE!!

Note: I found it hard to believe that a guy could have a crush on me even though I had crushes on guys. I was pretty clueless.

I am not sure what Shirley Vega and were arguing about. I know I used to go over the library during study hall and help Mrs. Grafft shelve books. She taught me the Dewey Decimal system which helped when I worked in various college libraries with the work/study programs. My love of books continues and still love reading an actual physical book. I love the smell of books, the feel and being able to turn back a page or chapter to find a character’s name or location.

Do you prefer to read hard copy books or digital media? Do you use your public library? I have a great one with the best librarians!

My family left suddenly after the earthquake. So glad we found each other in Knoxville. I prefer reading an actual book but like reading in bed at night . It's so easy to read those without needing to have a lamp on.

PS - correction: you were not wondering about Roberto's life as a teen... you just wished you could sit next to him instead of Pat... still count you as very thoughtful👍 Tootsie

Always amazed at what a thoughtful teen you were. Not only sending good wishes for your grandfather and your father's travels but also hoping your latest crush, Roberto, had a good life!

Paper books are it for me - at the Leelanau boarding school in Michigan we were taught to speed read and to make books our own. To underline, highlight, turn pages down, put markers in... To this day I have a hard time reading a book and not doing all that to it!

Now days, I fall asleep when reading - so a friend told me to sit on a small kitchen stool - no way!

Bessie G and that cute little bug she wheeled around in are…

Lots of treasured memories of A. N.S. I love how you learned to speed read and make books your own. My dad had us take a speed reading class in Managua and it has been a valuable tool! Love hearing about your memories, Tootsie!

Susan, i love the convenience of digital books and read on my phone a ton now. It’s just so convenient and with you all the time bc we’re often not without our devices. But I get the beauty of pages in hand to read. I still like to print many things if it’s learning-related/school info. But for pleasure reading, digital is a breeze. Love Amanda

I agree it is often more convenient to have a digital book. I love how we all read differently but the important part is that we all read. Thanks for sharing Amanda!

I like a physical book to read. Must confess half of the time I skip read . Sometimes if I need to go to sleep just have to read the end! There are lots of loaned books on the dining table and on end tables. The bookcase if full!

Good to see you at art! Mg
