Dear Diary:

We went to church. We had butter milk pan cakes for breakfast. Mom got 2 gallons of butter milk free from El Eskimo. She went with Beckys class on a visit to El Eskimo. I outlined 12 pages of Science.  I have at least 7 to go. I washed my hair. Talked a short while to Missy. Watched T.V. We had steack for lunch. Mom & Dad went to the Shaws for supper. I’m doing the wash for mom won’t she be surprised!!! I have to study for History!! Pray that I pass. OK? Wish me luck in typing too.

BYE!!!

Note: El Eskimo was a food company in Nicaragua that mainly sold ice cream, milk, and yogurt. It was in operation for 72 years until it was sold to a Mexican company in 2014. Mom went as a chaperone on Becky’s class field trip. She could never pass up a bargain. Not sure what we did with the 2 gallons of buttermilk as you can only make so many pancakes. I think she tried to get us to drink it but she didn’t get any takers!

Dear Diary:

David didn’t go to school honor Roll day. Missy came but went only to a few classes. I had a History test which I didn’t do good. I had homework in exactly every class. When I came home I read papers & I did homework. Studied for English like anything. Watched T.V. I watched the end of Rock Hudson movie divine. Kirk Douglas was in it & fell in love with this girl wanted to marry her but then he found out it was his daughter. Wish me luck on English PLEASE!!

BYE!!

Note: The movie was on TV and was dubbed in Spanish. The fun part was that the lips never matched the words.

February 29, 1972 Tues.

Dear Diary:

I had a busy day today. English test I didn’t do good I think (almost sure on stupid punctiation.) We corrected my composition in class. Mrs. Habed MiMi graded them all off (most) & just as they were & gave all of us one. Now we correct them. No names on them luckly. I had my tennis lesson. Kim called me Mrs. Susan [his last name] Boy atrevido!  I answered him Te gustaría! When I came home I went to the basketball game at 4:00 at our school. 55 to 51. We lost Ouh! I didn’t have fun. Watched T.V.

BYE!!

Note: Translation: ¡Que atrevido! - how daring!  Te gustaría - You wish.

I guess this Kim had a crush on me and I was clueless. He was the one who gave me an empty can of tennis balls earlier in the year.

Punctuation is not my friend! LOL

When I mentioned Mrs. Habed Mimi, I was referring to her teacher aide and that was the nickname I gave her.

I remember the first ( and only) time I tried to drink buttermilk. My dad loves it, and it sounded so good. Butter and milk, what's not to love?? BLECK. Lol!

We always called the chocolate covered vanilla ice cream on a stick an Eskimo Pie. I wonder if that is somehow related to ice cream company you are mentioning.

Could be. They also had vending carts with bells attached that they would push around and sell ice cream at the different parks and areas. My mom would never let us buy from them as she worried about how they washed their hands.

Always gives me a smile and a chuckle! Happy Friday. I noted that ponder as your word, someone else had piddle for their word. Right now couch potato is my word. Still positive for COVID so thank goodness for zoom. MG
