Dear Flowers:
Got a 95 in English spelling but probably end up with 85. I got a 93 in Science!! I lost my voice in Spanish & teacher kept asking me to tell the class certain definition. Uh! I was nominated Secretary for Student Council!!! I didnt want it but I talked to Mr. Lucas. My name is on bulletin Board. Got a letter from Missy & I she sent me a fish patch. I wrote her back. Did most of homework. Watched T.V. Get blood test Sat. I’m pretty sure I’m a diabetic.
BYE!
Note: My dad had recently diagnosed with diabetes and he wanted to see if any of us had it. The Doctor told him that two out the three of us would end up with diabetes. Fortunately, he was wrong and we have dodged the bullet. I pray we continue to do so.
It was always exciting when I got a letter from Missy and she knew my love for anything with fish.

Dear Flowers:
Got 87 on lab questions. YEAH!! Missed Spanish & History cause of Class meeting & Assembly. Stayed for lab. It was fun. Looked under microscopes. Pat & Simmon came over. We studied Math (Pat explained it to me. Mom & Dad went out to dinner party. Dave’s at Boyscoots. Watched T.V. Getting diabetes test Sat. Got to study wish me luck. PLEASE help me learn how to share. I really have to learn.
BYE!!!
Note: Math has never been my forte. We were learning “new math” but I didn’t have a handle on “old math.”
Not sure why I was having difficulty sharing. Simone or Pat might have wanted something of mine and I didn’t want to part with it?

Dear Flowers:
Today was a real hard day all my energy is drained out. I got an 82 on Spanish test. History test & Geometry. Hard & popping! Talked to Pat & to Simmon on phone. Worked on English Paragraph. Watched T.V. Dad’s having an office party & we all should go out. I still have to dry my hair (hope it comes out nice pictures tomorrow) & do Science outline. Wish me luck. Pray that Grandpa’s alright.
BYE!
Note: I still don’t remember what my Grandfather was having surgery for, maybe hernia?
I love how I stated that all of my energy drained out. I must still say that at times as my oldest uses that phrase a lot!

Busy few days! I wonder where you all went when your dad had an office party and how long before you went back home. That is a nice photo of you! I remember writing Air Mail on all letters to Central America , but don't know if it's necessary anymore. Love the spelling of Boy Scouts 😀
I love your picture! And I'm very glad you don't have diabetes.
Agree with all - very good photos of you!
In Nicaragua we had an Apartado and it never crossed my mind to diagnose, so to speak, the word... so found Rich's observation intriguing. Looked it up and found one definition to be a compartment - so guess that can indicate an exclusive section - that belongs to you, i.e., set aside (aparte) for you.
Look forward to your blog! Tootsie
Susan, what awesome photos and I love the letter - you do an amazing job with the blog. It’s like a living time capsule. Your adventures are so rich and honest. I look forward to reading it weekly! Amanda S
Wow, 17c for an Airmail letter to Latin America....what a bargain! (Reg. 1st Class was 8c). It jogged my memory that there was no home mail delivery in most L.A. cities, so you needed an "Apartado" or mail box. San José had one huge PO downtown. We had a 4 digit box no. Yours was only 3 digits, suggesting not a whole lot of folks had PO boxes! ("Apartado" generally means "apart from" or "remote", also means "paragraph"...how it came to mean "PO Box" is a mystery)
New Math....yep, been there, did that, or rather, couldn't do it....sets, subsets....yuck! I think it faded in popularity by the mid 70's? Ask Eric.
Oh, and your glasses were very chic, very 70's!
