Dear Flowers:
I got up late & read the rest of the morning till I finished "The Noonday Friends." It was by Mary Stolz. In the afternoon I worked on my report on Nicolaus Copernicus. Boy was he a boring man. I got 4 pages sure hope I get a good grade. Mom & Dad went to Freddy Jones 1st communion. Grandpa goes into the hospital Thurs. for 2 operation. Pray he comes out ok.
BYE!
Note: The Noonday Friends by Mary Stolz won the Newbery Honor Book Notable Children’s Books for 1965. It was about two friends from poor working class families living in inner-city New York.
Nicolaus Copernicus was a famous mathematician and astronomer but I found him boring as a teenager.

Dear Flowers:
We went to 10:00 mass. We also went to the supermarket. Last night I finished a good book "Dear Stepmother." It was good!!! I washed my hair & rolled it. (Mom did) I got a cold. I did homework. I went over to Pats. Helped her with her make-up. Watched T.V. Warmed up left-overs. Played home boliche with Dave & Becky. Grandpa goes in the hospital Thurs.
BYE!!
Note: I definitely loved to read. Dad had all three of us take a speed reading class which really helped me. I appreciate the skills to this day.
Boliche is bowling. We would set the game up in the garage/patio.
I don’t remember what kind of surgery my Grandfather was needing.

Dear Flowers:
I brought my orange purse to school & it got me into some problems. Bill Flores had his feet on my chair & when the bell rang he jump up & got caught on my purse. He was mad.
I got a 96 in Math & a C+ on English composition. I stayed after & learned to work in the library. Mom drove to Doña Mercedes. I‘m to get a tennis dress. I outlined history. Watched T.V. Got a cold. Got to go. Rhymes. Getting poetic in your old age haha Susie Dear!
BYE!!!
Note: I wish I still had the orange purse as I now live in Volunteer Country with everything orange.
Bill Flores often sat behind me since we were often seated in alphabetic order. His mother, Virginia Flores, was our art teacher. She also introduced me to yoga which I have enjoyed ever since.
Mrs. Graft our librarian taught me the Dewey Decimal system and how to check out and shelve books. I worked in libraries during college and served as a head librarian at the Reservoir Branch Library in Brandon, MS.

I love the pictures! They tell a lot about your life and adventures!
We learned the DDS at our meager high school library in C.R. Apparently it's alive and well in today's digital era. Still, I wouldn't be surprised if most of today's high school seniors don't know what the Dewey Decimal System is.
English composition always came easy to me....mom had her old Underwood typewriter wherever we moved, and would type up the occasional longhand paper I'd write. (My cursive wasn't too good....[I'm told cursive's not even taught much anymore...jeez! ])
Looks like you're quite a good math student. That was my worst subject, despite always having a technically oriented mind. Wish I'd paid more attention in class. (I'm still searching for a solution to a particular math problem, first conceived while…
Well! There’s poor old Copernicus put in his place! And I’m thinking your lovely husband might have taken a different view of the great man ; in fact I can well imagine Little Eric asking for a Copernicus cake on his birthday.
